After a busy Easter period, you might find yourself with leftover chocolate. Throwing it away when the products are still perfectly fine? At Vandeca, we think that's a shame.

That's why we decided to give an overstock of Libeert chocolate a wonderful new destination. In consultation with Libeert, we donated the chocolate to Love In Action, a local initiative from Wervik that supports vulnerable children and families.

This way, we not only avoid unnecessary food waste, but the chocolate can also reach people for whom such a treat can really make a difference.

Love In Action supports vulnerable families and children

Love In Action is an organization from Wervik that is committed to children and families in vulnerable situations.

This happens through various initiatives. Children's club De Regenboog organizes activities where children can play, sing, dance, and craft together. In addition, Love In Action supports families through food distribution and other forms of practical help.

The donated Libeert chocolate therefore had various destinations.

Part of it could be added to food packages for families. Other chocolate was creatively used within Children's Club De Regenboog to make chocolates together with the children.

This way, leftover chocolate was not just given away, but also an opportunity to experience something fun together.

chocolate overstock gets a second life

The chocolate came from our stock after the Easter period.

Seasonal products pose a particular challenge for webshops and retailers. Demand is concentrated around a short period, and after a holiday, a product can become commercially less relevant, while the chocolate itself is still perfectly usable.

Instead of letting these products go to waste, we looked for a meaningful destination together with Libeert.

This aligns with how we at Vandeca try to deal with surpluses consciously. Even today, we donate overstock of chocolate, sweets, and cookies to social organizations when possible. You can read more about this approach at sustainability at Vandeca.

a helping hand for local families

For business owner Dieter Vandecasteele, the choice for Love In Action was a very conscious one.

"We are extremely pleased that we can make a significant contribution to Love In Action. My wife and I find it important to do our part for the local community that is struggling a bit."

Through Karin Charlet, chairwoman of Love In Action, Vandeca heard that the demand for support had greatly increased during that period.

According to the information we received at the time, the number of food packages for families had doubled, and approximately 200 families from Wervik, Kortrijk, Ypres, and Kruiseke, among others, were supported.

This immediately made it clear that the chocolate ended up in a place where it was welcome.

Love In Action still supports vulnerable families today through food distribution and other initiatives. The organization currently mentions approximately 225 families per month within its food distribution project.

limiting food waste together with Libeert

The donation was made in consultation with Libeert.

This collaboration was important. After all, it concerned chocolate from the brand that was still in our stock after the Easter period.

We are therefore grateful to Libeert for the smooth cooperation and support in giving these products a different destination.

Those who want to discover the Belgian chocolate brand can find the current assortment of Libeert chocolate at Vandeca, including chocolate figures and seasonal products.

helping locally with what we have

A social contribution doesn't always have to be complicated.

If chocolate, sweets, or cookies are still perfectly usable but can no longer be logically sold, we prefer to see if someone else can still enjoy them.

In this case, that meant that Libeert chocolate that would otherwise have remained overstock ended up with children and families from our own region.

For us, that's a great combination: less waste and at the same time supporting a local initiative.

We thank Love In Action for their daily dedication and Libeert for the collaboration that made this donation possible.

Because if our love for chocolate can bring a little moment of happiness to someone else, we are happy to share it.
