Vandeca on VTM: behind the scenes at Flanders Asks

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, Vandeca had a special opportunity: we were featured on VTM in the program Vlaanderen Vraagt (Flanders Asks).

The episode revolved around the question: "How can I enjoy life more?" A theme that we at Vandeca can certainly relate to. Because enjoying can sometimes be surprisingly simple: a piece of chocolate, your favorite candy, a delicious cookie, or a snack at the right moment.

For the broadcast, a camera crew visited Vandeca, and viewers got a behind-the-scenes look at our webshop, our products, and how we work every day.

Those who only see our webshop naturally only get part of the story.

Behind every package are several steps: receiving products, creating new combinations, preparing packaging, finishing items, collecting orders, and carefully preparing everything for shipment.

During Vlaanderen Vraagt, viewers had the opportunity to get a close-up look at part of this daily operation.

Our own creations were also featured. At Vandeca, we combine well-known brands of chocolate, candy, and cookies in various packaging and compositions. This allows us to offer products that you don't always find in a traditional store.

During the filming, two themes central to Vandeca were highlighted: creating unique products and consciously dealing with packaging.

We work with jars, tubes, tin cans, and sturdy gift boxes that can be reused after the treats are gone.

That principle remains an important part of our approach today. On our page about sustainability at Vandeca, you can read more about reusable packaging, limiting waste, and how we reuse packaging material.

Additionally, many brands within our assortment themselves work with quality labels and broader initiatives concerning cocoa, fair trade, and specific dietary preferences, among other things.

Enjoying and consciously handling products do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Vandeca's first extensive television appearance

For our team, the arrival of a television crew was anything but a normal workday.

Suddenly, there were cameras among the products, daily operations were filmed, and various colleagues got to explain what happens behind the scenes at Vandeca.

That made it exciting, but above all special.

A television broadcast offers something that photos and product pages can hardly fully show: the people behind the company and the work that happens daily before an order reaches a customer.

The filming day also left an impression on the team.

For Dieter, the broadcast was mainly a great moment to show how Vandeca had grown behind the scenes.

"It was exciting to be filmed for 'Vlaanderen Vraagt'. I stepped out of my comfort zone by also speaking on camera. As a content creator, the footage taken is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the broadcast."

For someone who normally works behind the content, the filming day suddenly meant appearing in front of the camera.

And that is precisely what we found important ourselves: not only showing the end product, but also the work that precedes it.

For us, it is now also a beautiful piece of Vandeca history. The images show where we stood then and provide insight into a period when we were actively building on our webshop, our own products, and our way of working.

We look back with great pleasure on our participation in Vlaanderen Vraagt.

Not only because Vandeca appeared on VTM, but mainly because we had the opportunity to show who and what is behind the webshop.

From assembling and finishing products to the warehouse and the people who work on it every day: for once, the behind-the-scenes work played the leading role.
